7 local SEO fixes every small business should make first
For most local businesses, the first page of Google — and especially the Google Maps “local pack” — is where new customers come from. The good news: the basics are free and within your control.
1. Claim and complete your Google Business Profile
Add your exact business name, category, phone, hours, service area, products or services, and at least 10 real photos. An incomplete profile is the most common reason businesses do not appear on Maps.
2. Keep your name, address and phone identical everywhere
Your website, Google profile, Justdial, IndiaMART, Facebook and other listings should show the same details, written the same way. Inconsistent details confuse search engines.
3. Ask every happy customer for a review
Share a direct review link on WhatsApp after a sale or service. Reply to every review — positive or negative — politely and quickly.
4. Create a page for each service and location
One page that says “we do everything” rarely ranks. A clear page for each main service (and for each city or area you serve) gives Google something specific to show.
5. Write titles people want to click
Your page title should say what you do and where, for example “Dental Clinic in Vijay Nagar, Indore | Book a Check-up”. Keep it under about 60 characters.
6. Make your site fast on mobile
Most local searches happen on phones. Compress images, remove heavy sliders and test your pages with Google PageSpeed Insights.
7. Add your map, click-to-call and WhatsApp buttons
These do not just help SEO — they turn visitors into calls. Make it effortless to contact you from any page.
Fix these seven and you will have a stronger local foundation than many of your competitors. When you are ready to go further, content and link building take it to the next level.
